Troop 72 – sponsored by the Central United Methodist Church 8237 Kenton Ave, Skokie, IL 60076
Troop 72 hosts its Troop meetings in the log cabin, where our 30 youth members work on merit badges, rank advancement, and leadership skills. This youth-led Troop, under the direction of Scoutmaster Dennis Clarke, works to embody the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Along with its weekly meetings, Troop 72 has monthly outings, ranging from cabin camping to tent camping, backpacking, and summer camp at Camp MakaJaWan.
We meet every Wednesday during the school year at Church’s Log Cabin at 8237 Kenton, Skokie IL, from 7:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. You do not need to join or buy a uniform in order to attend a meeting and see what Scouting is all about. So come by and visit us on any school year Wednesday!

What do we do?
Part of Scouting is outing, and we do it. We go skiing, camping, swimming, shooting, hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, etc on weekend outings, and we do a week long summer camp in the north woods Camp MaKaJaWan. The typical costs of our outings for Scouts is $15-$30, with 1 special outing per year costing about $50-$70. Summer camp (the most fun a Scout will ever have) costs ~$450. The cost for adults is either free or reduced price depending on the event.

Advancement
Troop 72 has a strong tradition of Scouts reaching the pinnacle of Scouting – the Eagle rank. But regardless if your Scout reaches Eagle or not, we fully support their efforts and encourage them to get the most out of this unique and special experience.
Uniforms
Once a boy has joined Troop 72, he is required to be in uniform for meetings and traveling to and from outings. The minimum Boy Scout uniform that a boy needs is an official Boy Scout Tan shirt with green epaulets and the number 72. The Troop has their own custom shoulder patch for the uniform. The Troop 72 Neckerchief is earned when completing the first rank of Tenderfoot. You can purchase a sash once your Scout has earned merit badges.
Fundraisers
Troop 72 arranges fundraisers, eg. popcorn, candy bars, etc., which benefit the Scouts in terms of earning Scout Bucks (credits they can use for Scouting events) and supports Troop activities and the purchase of Troop gear. Additionally the Scouts learn and practice important interpersonal skills. It is expected that each Scout will participate in our fundraisers.
Scout Handbook
Each boy should have the Boy Scout handbook. Have their name on it and have them bring it to each meeting. As a Scout completes a rank requirement they should have their book signed as a record for tracking their rank advancement.
Our Troop is strong and successful
We get broad and reliable support from parents and our charter.
We draw our membership from local thriving Cub Scout Packs.
Think about this
In Scouting your son will play, work and learn with other kids his age, but also with guys that are both older and younger than him. He is accepted in a wide range of age groups and will have fun with them shoulder to shoulder. In what other activity will your son have that experience? Take a minute to think about it, then realize that nothing compares to Scouting.
